With heavy hearts and tremendous love, we announce the passing of Abelin Andrew Rodriguez, 74, of Miami, Florida on September 24, 2026. Known as Abe to some and Andrew to others, he was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, whose presence, personality, and unforgettable laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Born on December 12, 1951, in Hicksville, New York, Abe was one of four siblings and was preceded in death by his loving parents, Abelin Rodriguez and Isabel Rodriguez (nee Melian); his beloved wife, Patricia Anne Rodriguez (nee Costanzo); and his dear sister, Grace Way. He is survived by his brother, Reuben Callejas; his sister, Yolanda Alvarez; his daughter, Theresa (Terri) Schilthorn, and many family members and friends who were blessed to share in his life.
Family was at the very heart of who Abe was, and he embraced as family many individuals that he took into his heart and cared for as his own. He had a deep appreciation for the beauty of life around him, and a special passion for nature and wildlife, finding joy and awe in experiencing the world’s natural wonders.
Abe worked for 29 years in Miami-Dade County’s procurement operations department, and prior to that as a civilian procurement and contracting officer in the U.S. Coast Guard 7th District in Miami, Florida.
While our hearts are saddened by his passing, we choose to celebrate the life he lived, the places he experienced, the family and friends he cherished, and the memories that will continue to bring both tears and smiles, but most of all love.
Abe’s Celebration of Life will be on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Woodlawn Park Cemetery South, 11655 SW 117th Avenue, Miami, FL 33176.
For those who may wish to make contributions in his name, among many his preferred charities were Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Yorktown Heights, NY; The World Wildlife Fund in Washington, DC; the National Parks Conservation Association in Washington, DC, and PBS/NPR.
