Steven Anthony Krueger, age 74, passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2024. Steve was born in Los Angeles, CA and spent his childhood in North Hollywood and on an avocado ranch in Valley Center, CA. He loved hiking and camping in the deserts of Southern California, but always dreamed of living much further north. He moved to Canada as a young adult to work for the Kamloops Daily Sentinel newspaper in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Steve was passionate about journalism, and his career brought him a lot of joy over the years, including meeting his wife Florence while they were both reporting for a newspaper story in Kamloops.
Steve went on to become an accomplished journalist and winner of Canada’s National Newspaper Award. Over his decades-long career, he worked for many well-respected news outlets, including the Canadian Press, CBC TV in Canada, and KPLU National Public Radio in the Seattle area. Steve was always passionate about environmental news and politics, and in his retirement combined these passions to write his novel “Manifest Destiny: Fire on the Water.”
Steve was very close to his family and cherished his grandchildren. He is remembered for his creative stories, his great sense of humor, teaching his children and grandchildren about the world, and his passion for life. His stories and actions taught us all to enjoy and appreciate everything that life has to offer.
Steve is deeply mourned by his wife of 50 years (Florence Krueger), his children Shelley Bolser and Mike Krueger and their families, and by everyone who knew him. We hope that he is now reunited with those he loved who passed away before him, including his beloved son Kevin Krueger and his mother Elizabeth Krueger.
Steve’s stories, humor, and generous spirit touched everyone and will live on in all of us.
