Our sweet son, Shawn Michael Ketchum, 31, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025 in Lynnwood, WA. Shawn was born in San Jose, CA and was the youngest child of Stanley William Ketchum and Sandra Lynne Connor. Shawn is predeceased by Brooke Dunham, the love of his life.
As a child, Shawn enjoyed playing Little League, youth soccer and basketball with his twin brother, Sandy. As he grew older, he and Sandy spent time as Boy Scouts and later as Episcopal acolytes in church on Sunday. As a young adult, Shawn found a true love of cooking and bartending. When he decided to move to Washington state, he made the trip solo driving from San Jose, CA to Bellingham, WA in his beloved 2006 Ford Mustang. He loved adventure and never backed down from a challenge.
Shawn especially enjoyed his work family, making close friends and winning over the hearts of everyone he met. He took pride in his work and went out of his way to support his co-workers. And after work, Shawn enjoyed spending time with his friends watching sports, especially his bay area teams: the 49ers, Giants and Sharks. Shawn was very vocal when he rooted for his teams and could have cared less that his were not the local teams; he was a die-hard Bay Area fan and proclaimed it proudly.
Over the years, Shawn developed quite the talent for golf and pool, playing both sports whenever he had a free moment. In addition, Shawn was a gamer extraordinaire, making fast friends with other gamers all over the world. His energy, openness and competitive spirit drew others to him; he truly was a force to be reckoned with!
Shawn is survived by his brother, Carl (Tony) Timmerman of Pocatello, ID; his sister, Trudi (Timmerman) Gearhart of Santa Clara, CA; his brother, Sean Ketchum and his wife, Melissa of San Jose, CA; his brother, Timothy Timmerman of San Jose, CA; his brother, Troy Timmerman and his wife Crystal of Chilhowie, VA; and his twin brother, Sandy Ketchum and his wife, Susie of Fair Oaks, CA. Shawn is also survived by his two beautiful nieces, Kira and Kayla Gearhart, as well as his spirited nephew, Nicholas Ketchum along with extended family and friends and, of course, his beloved dogs, Shadow and Chloe.
Shawn’s sudden passing has left a hole in the hearts of his family and friends. He blessed us all with a personality that would fill a room, and a smile that would light it. Shawn will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him and he will never, ever be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm on March 1, 2025 at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church, 15040 Union Avenue, San Jose, CA. A private burial at sea will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Everett Animal Services, a no-kill shelter run by the City of Everett Animal Services in Everett, WA.
