She was a twin with Shireen, and were proceeded by their older sisters, Pat and Micky. They moved to Seattle, living an active life in the Greenlake area and Richmond Beach, graduating from Edmonds High school in 1948. Her Father, Mel Kelly and was a leader in World Book during that time.
Sharon attended college in Oregon and then University of WA, when she met John Samples, her future husband. He became an elementary School teacher. They lived in Seattle, where they had their first two children, Pati and Bobbi, and moved to Port Orchard. They then settled in Edmonds in 1956 to work in the Edmonds School District. In Edmonds, they had Billy and Nancy. Four kids in all! Sharon loved homemaking and was an excellent cook, seamstress, facilitating play and learning for her children. They ventured into the mountains in the winter to stay at the Ski Lodge they helped to build and to camping destinations with friends in the summers, enjoying family reunions and get togethers throughout the year. She helped design a home that they built in North Edmonds area, where the kids then attended the Meadowdale Schools where they all graduated.
John, her husband, taught 5th grade and then became a principal until he retired from Westgate Elementary. Sharon finished her college degree at the U of Wa with an Art Major and a K-12 teaching certificate. She also worked in the Edmonds School District, teaching in many capacities. She also worked for Alaska Publishing in Edmonds and as a trained Flower Arranger.
She was active in her creative life; drawing, painting and crafts, and decorative projects in the churches they attended. They lost their son, Bill at 20 in an accident when he was in the Navy. When they retired, they moved to Lake Tapps, where they built a home there. She and John travelled to Mexico each year in their trailer and served as Sowers Volunteers in their travels. They enjoyed international travel also, including Europe, Turkey, Israel. They moved back to Edmonds and then to Warm Beach Senior Community to be near their children. Their oldest daughter, Pati, passed at 57. They were still near their two surviving daughters, Bobbi and Nancy. They enjoyed and were active in the Warm Beach Community. John was admitted to Cascade Sr. Living Memory Care in Arlington, and passed there after Christmas, in 2021, with her present.
Sharon moved to Brookdale Assisted Living in Stanwood and passed there in March of 2023, with her nieces visiting that day and her daughters with her. She is celebrated as a person who sought kindness. She loved learning and celebrating the growth of her kids and her grandchildren: Jacob, Bekah, Kiley, Nolan, Christina and Sarah. She has some great grandchildren; Kent, Sophia, Kayden, Lindsey, Kyrra, Mauve, Lilly and Ellie. She is loved and missed!!!
She and her husband, John will be remembered at their burial plot at Evergreen Cemetery in Everett on Sept 22 at 2:30.
There is a memorial for Sharon and John Samples on Sat. Sept. 23rd, 2023. at 2:00 at Island Baptist Church, 147 Woodland Dr. Camano Island, WA. with celebration of life afterwards at the Chase Farm.
