Roy W. Stegmer Jr. passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, leaving behind Paula his wife of
20 years, daughter Leanne, aka Pinky and grandson Austin. Roy was born in Seattle on May
12, 1937, he grew up in West Seattle and Burien, where he graduated from Highline High
School in 1956. He attended the University of Washington for a while before embarking on
enlistment in the U.S. Army, where he dedicated 3 years to serving his country with honor and
dedication in the infantry stationed in Germany. After his military service, Roy pursued a variety
of careers including automobile sales, tavern ownership, bartending in well-known classic
restaurants such as Lowell’s in the Public Market and Franco’s Hidden Harbor. Bartending was
a field in which he excelled and developed a vast sphere of friendships. As time went on Roy left
the Hospitality Industry and became a seaman working for and retiring from the Washington
State Ferry System. He truly loved working on the ferry boats.
In addition to his professional achievements, Roy was a good athlete, he played varsity sports
at Highline High School and enjoyed a casual round of golf with his buddies. Jazz was another
passion; he attended multiple jazz festivals along the West Coast. Roy enjoyed camping and
cruising on his Bayliner in Lake Washington and Puget Sound. His love for travel took him to
places such as Washington D.C., Mexico and Thailand he often shared this passion with family
and friends.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Paula, his daughter Leanne, grandson Austin and a host of
extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. Roy will be remembered for his easy going
way of life and friendly attitude. He is finally at rest.
