

Roy grew up on a farm in Grand Forks. After graduating from high school in Grand Forks, Roy enlisted in the United States Army and served two years (1950-1951) during the Korean War. After being discharged he returned to Grand Forks and worked various jobs. In 1956 he moved to Milton, WA and worked a short time for Boeing before going to work for Heath Tecna in Kent as an aircraft mechanic, retiring after 33 years.
He married Janice in 1977 and they moved to Sumner, WA. After retirement, they moved to Crescent Bar in Quincy, WA where they enjoyed golfing, fishing and camping. He loved spending time with family, especially taking the grandchildren around the park in the golf cart. He enjoyed working several years in the fruit orchards for dear friend Ali Hashemi.
Janice and Roy moved to Bellingham in December of 2015 and Roy became a member of the American Legion Post 7 in Bellingham and Christ Lutheran Church in Ferndale.
Roy is survived by his wife Janice Finnie; daughters Renee (Tom) Hughes, Connie (Fred) Dryer, Donna MacGregor, Danay (Ed) Hines; stepchildren Linda (Rick) Luke, Laurie (Mike) Wittman, Wayne Graves; 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Roy is also survived by half siblings Marv Johnson and Audrey Stolz and numerous nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Leisha Synoground and brother Al Finnie.
The family would like to thank Whatcom Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Roy in his final days.
A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 16 at Christ Lutheran Church, 5904 Vista Drive, Ferndale.
