Roger was a proud Army Veteran who served his country with honor as a Military Policeman, a trait that likely contributed to his absolute refusal to ever back down from an argument. To those who knew him well, his legendary stubbornness was perfectly balanced by an immense charm and a lightning-fast wit.
He was a man of distinct passions. Roger had a voracious appetite for reading, constantly consuming books, and spent countless hours metal detecting —happily wandering around looking for buried treasure while ignoring everyone else.
Of all his findings and achievements, nothing made Roger prouder than his family. His proudest accomplishment was his children, whom he loved fiercely (even if he occasionally drove them crazy). He is survived by them: Lorrie Walton, Roger (Brenda) Lane, Lisa (Scott) Hauff, and Cathy (Tim) Merrill.
His legacy of strong wills and sharp wits lives on through his 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his nephew and niece, Sean (Tammy) Lane and Ann Marie Phillips whom he had great love and affection for.
Roger is now reunited with those who passed before him, who have hopefully had enough time to prepare for his arrival: his mother and father, Helen and Leonard Lane; his brother, Dale Lane; and his great-grandson, Matthew Hastings.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Roger’s wonderful team of caregivers for their compassion, patience, and support. They would especially like to thank Miranda, whom Roger truly thought of and loved as a part of his own family (and who deserves a medal for managing him).
