My Dr. Janes gave me help, humor and most importantly the feeling of being cared about. He was a very important support for me and my heart goes out to his family today because my once-a-week time was very precious and I know his family must miss him terribly.

I thank you for sharing his wisdom and caring with us all. I remind myself of his words so often, especially about the nature of reality...that "it is your friend, it's always there waiting for you when you need it, right around the corner" and when feeling isolated, being reminded that "they're just like you...wandering around, getting here and there, wondering what to have for dinner...". Basic great stuff!

Dr Janes was a wonderful physician and friend. I miss him.

Rob was a medical school classmate and climbing partner in the early to mid 1960s. He was a strong, experienced climber and mountaineer, having been a climbing guide on Mt Rainer before med school. On 23 June 1966,  we managed to reach the summit of Mt. St. Helens  in spite of a surprise blizzard white out; then we survived a miserably wet and cold bivouac below the tree line later that night on the back side of the mountain. On our hike back to our tent at Spirit Lake camp ground the next morning, we spotted a small, single-engined plane that had crashed  on Leschi Glacier, about 1000 feet above us during the same snow storm that we had survived. Then we learned the next day that a young woman and her infant had survived that crash. She had seen Rob and me walking the trail far below carrying our ice axes and in delirium she thought we were shepherds carrying staves. She shouted out to us for help but from the windy glacier 1000 feet away, of course, we could not hear her cries for help and we were sure that her plane had also been spotted by a search plane, which was also circling  over the glacier.

Rob Janes was a very important person in my life for 45 years. He was my father’s colleague as well as someone I saw over the years when I needed his professional support. After my cancer diagnosis in 2022 he offered to see me again and his comforting presence was what I needed to get me through. Sadly, he had to retire when I was still a patient and I never got to say goodbye.
I always admired how he spoke of Jonna. 
It was clear he adored and respected her. 
He made me feel seen and special.
And of course we talked poodles and movies and books, etc.
The loss is profound and I will miss him always.

Dr Janes was the best and wisest therapist in my life. I saw him for over five years and he saved my life. i thought of returning to him but I figured he was retired  by now. I looked up to him as a fount of wisdom, insight, and integrity.

Jonna, I want to send you, and your family, my deepest sympathies for your loss. I was a patient of Rob‘s many years ago. After seeing him for a number of years, I finally decided that I was “fixed“. Well, life went on and I realized that I still needed more help. I called him up to see if he was still taking patients. He very kindly said, “I’m always willing to see an alumni.“ I will miss dearly.

Rob meant a great deal to me. He helped me immensely during some pretty struggling years. I always thought of him as a safe, easy to talk to grandfather with an immense amount of wisdom. He will be so missed.
