Kris and her siblings grew up in the Pacific Northwest graduating from Renton High School. After a professional career in nuclear power, she worked as a software project manager, traveling and living in Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and throughout the U.S. She and her husband Rick retired to Anacortes, Washington to be close to family and friends.
In retirement, Kris remained busy, as was her nature, by donating her time to various community organizations, traveling, and pursuing her hobbies of gardening and painting. She was thoughtful and caring, always putting others first. She made everything she touched more beautiful, and we will remember her smile, laughter, and positive attitude forever.
Kris was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Moody of CA and brother, Bob Hansen of San Diego, CA.
Kris is survived by her loving family: husband, Richard (Rick) Whiteaker of Anacortes, WA; son, Bradley Ehlers of Seattle, WA; daughter, Shannon Ehlers of San Diego, CA; two grandchildren; sister, Karen Napora of WA; nieces, Tammy York and Melinda Krigsvold of WA, and countless other loving family and friends.

Kris had requested that the following poem be shared:
Miss Me But Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long and not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once shared.
Miss me but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take and each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's Plan, a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely or sick of heart, go to the friends we know
and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me but let me go.
