Jon, beloved brother, and uncle, passed away on the 11th day of August 2023. Jon was born at Saint Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock, Arkansas on the 4th day of September 1963. He grew up in a military family who moved often, and he attended elementary school in a variety of places including Charleston, South Carolina, Boise, Idaho and in Japan. Jon was particularly fond of the time he spent in Japan where, as a child, he participated on the swim team and spent summers with his family in a cabin on Mt. Fuji.
Jon grew up in Eastern Washington and excelled in creative writing and English in High School. He was included in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students of 1979-1980”. Jon was active in 4-H, leadership and raised show rabbits along with his older brother, Jed. After high school he attended Washington State University for a number of years and eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences.
Jon’s chosen career was in the food service industry, as a waiter in fine dining establishments, he was an accomplished wine steward, and was trained in hotel motel management. Jon worked primarily in the Seattle area. He was exceptionally hardworking and had an excellent sense of humor. In 1993, he was voted as “Best Waiter” in the Best of Seattle Weekly readers’ poll. Seattle was his favorite town and he especially enjoyed urban hikes around Capitol Hill and Volunteer Park. Jon loved entertainment and volunteered at the Seattle Film Festival and the Seattle Food Bank. He loved giving gifts and had a particular knack of finding just the perfect thing for someone at a thrift shop.
Jon will be greatly missed by his close friends, family, and his extended family in the Seattle area.
Jon is survived by his brother Jed & Mary Januch and nephew James Januch & niece Summer Januch and by his sister, Shelley Newman & her husband Marc Creller. Jon is preceded in death by his mother Bonita J. Januchowski and his father Donald W. Januchowski.
