February 1, 1942-February 28, 2023
Jean Louise Campbell was born in Anacortes, Washington on Feb. 1, 1942 to James Francis Campbell and Alice Louise Washburn Campbell.
During her early years she lived with her parents and brother, Larry, in various locations including Anacortes, Morton, Seattle, and eventually, Alderwood (Lynnwood), WA.
Jean graduated from Edmonds High School in 1960 and Everett Junior College (EJC) in 1962. While at EJC she became friends with Bonnie Lee Osborn. Bonnie introduced her to her brother John. On September 8, 1962 Jean and John married and moved to an apartment in downtown Edmonds. Jean had a job as a legal secretary just a short walk from their apartment! They lived there until John finished his work at the U of Washington toward bachelor and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering (environmental engineering).
In the Spring of 1964 they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where John worked for the US Public Health Service. They moved to subsequent locations through John’s job transfers to Dallas, Texas, Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington where they purchased their present home in Kenmore, Washington in 1971.
Jean had various secretarial and accounting jobs in those locations, ultimately working at Weight Watchers until she retired in about 2010.
Her sons, Dale and Daniel, were born in Portland in 1966 and 1969. They attended Northshore schools and while in grade school, Jean became involved in PTA where she and Jeanie McBee became friends and served as co-presidents of the PTA for one or two years.
During those years in Kenmore. Jean joined the Seattle Children’s Home auxiliary and served as bookkeeper for their “This and That” store. Through her miscellaneous volunteer work she developed numerous friendships.
Activities that Jean enjoyed included beach combing (gathering colorful rocks and seashells) at various vacation destinations, as well as sewing clothing, doing miscellaneous craft projects, and working on jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles.
During her sons’ youth years, she attended numerous sporting events including youth, soccer, little league baseball, and swim meets at the Aqua Club (a short distance from our home.)
In later years, Jean and John went on several cruises visiting the Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii as well as Norway and a few land trips in other European and US destinations. Friends and/or relatives joined Jean and John on some of those trips including Jean’s Brother Larry and his wife Carol, John’s Brother, Howard and his wife Carolyn, Jean’s close WW friend Juliann Beales with her husband Mark, and John’s EPA work associate/barbershop singing buddy Daniel Tangarone with his wife, Janet.
In summary, Jean developed numerous friendships through her activities and “in the neighborhood” as well as Northlake Lutheran Church membership.
Her younger son, Daniel, married Renee Krey and gave her a granddaughter, Kaitlyn, and grandson, Jared. When Kaitlyn was born it was one of the most exciting days of Jean’s life!
Jean had several cousins on both her mother’s and father’s sides. While she loved them all dearly the most special was surely Sharon Campbell Johnson, likely, because they were close in age and had similar interests.
Much more could be written about Jean, her life and adventures, but these are just a few recollections (without her direct input).
Jean was preceded in death by her parents and brother. She is survived by her husband, John, sons, Dale and Daniel (Renee), and grandchildren Kaitlyn Osborn Davis and Jared.
