Though the illness slowly took away pieces of the person we knew, it could never take away the love, kindness, and beauty that defined her.
She was a loving and kind person with a beautiful smile and gentle heart and found joy in everything. She had a way of making those around her feel loved and cared for, even in her final days. Her warmth, grace, positive attitude towards life, and loving spirit will forever remain in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Gail was born in Everett, WA on January 27th, 1949, to parents George and Viola Deffries; and along with her sister and two brothers, enjoyed an amazing upbringing. The Deffries enjoyed endless family picnics, potlucks and family get togethers in addition to constant family road trips throughout the Pacific Northwest.
In addition to her early years in Everett, Gail also lived in Snohomish, WA as well as several years in sunny Eastern Washington.
Gail attended Cascade High School and, upon graduating in 1967, pursued a career in dentistry, working as a dental assistant for over 30 years.
She was an amazing cook in the kitchen and was always open to sharing her favorite recipes, and very few guests left her home without a new recipe card.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steve Hammond, and together they shared a life filled with love, happiness and memories for almost 50 years, that will always be admired and treasured by her loved ones.
She leaves behind her two children, Eric and Renee, and three grandchildren; Caden, Miyora; and Bostyn, and siblings Sandy, Dan, and Steve, who will carry her love and memory with them always. Her family was her greatest joy, and the love she gave them will continue throughout the generations.
Although we mourn her passing, we are grateful for the beautiful life she shared with us and for every smile, every embrace, and every precious memory.
She was a beautiful woman, a devoted wife, a loving mother, sister, and a cherished grandmother. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
May she rest peacefully, forever smiling, and reunited with the love of her life.
