When Ethel was 5 years old, she moved with her family to Washington state, where her parents Dora and Sam Berg would eventually become home builders in the Everett area. Ethel was born into a family of girls: Four of her sisters (Margaret, Luella, Edna, and Alice) have preceded her in death. Her surviving sister, Mary Torbenson, lives in Everett.
Ethel graduated salutatorian of her Everett High School Class of 1949. She married Lloyd Morris in 1950, and three children were born from that union: Bob, Sandy, and John. In 1961 Ethel married Donald Briggs, and they welcomed Susan and David to the family.
Over her long working life, Ethel held many interesting jobs. Among them, she was an entrepreneur, a Federal Land Bank office manager, a high school secretary, an apartment manager, and a receptionist for a psychiatrist.
Ethel read widely, embraced new ideas, and became more and more liberal the older she got. She believed in justice and acceptance for all. She found great joy in the lives of her family. Ethel was an inspiration, especially for the women in her extended family.
Ethel was predeceased by her husband Don and sons Bob Morris and David Briggs. She is greatly missed by her children Sandy Moser, John Morris, Sue Hegedus (Dennis), daughter-in-law Tracey Learmont; and beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, sister, nieces, nephews, and their families.
