Emily Garrett Shannon

Emily Cox (Garrett) Shannon was born February 2, 1955 to Jim & Taddy Garrett of Belton, S.C. After graduating from Belton Honea-Path High School in May 1973, Emily joined the U.S. Navy where she served her country for 18 years, achieving the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the Navy, Emily went back to college and received her Master’s Degree in Social Work. She continued to serve our service members as a crisis counselor and then Vet Center Director until illness forced her to retire in July 2022. Upon retirement, Emily moved to Seattle alongside her husband, Jerry, to be closer to her daughter and daughter-in-law.

She leaves behind her husband, Jerry Shannon, daughter, Nicole and her wife, Kristina. Preceded in death by her sister, Claudia Bess of Atlanta, G.A., she will be dearly missed by brother Jim Garrett of Henniker, N.H., Meg Byars Augusta, G.A., Ann Diacsuk of Anderson, S.C., John Garrett of Belton, SC and their families.
