Dennis went to Santa Clara University, where he played football and majored in Political Science, where he went on to a career in the computer industry until 1987. Dennis helped raise his six children with his wife LaFaye. After retiring Dennis and Lafaye travelled often and invested. LaFaye passed away in 2009. Dennis continued to live on Mercer Island enjoying church, coffee with his buddies and helping others he saw in need.
He is survived by Brad Smart and his wife Judy, Doug Smart, Cyd Phillips and her husband Dan, Sue-Dee Smart and Darren Smart.
Dennis is predeceased by LaFaye Smart, his wife of 45 years, and their son, Curt Smart.
