Shirley M. Bachman

Shirley Marian Berg Kohler Bachman, age 94, died peacefully at her home in Georgetown, Kentucky on Wednesday, March 26, 2025.

Shirley was born in Chicago, Illinois, at home, at the height of the depression, to immigrant parents Conrad and Mary Berg. Life was not always easy for Shirley, but she and her parents were a hard working and close-knit family. In 1951 Shirley married Paul Kohler and together they built a home and a family. When their daughter, Kathleen showed an interest in dogs, they bought a poodle, and Shirley learned to groom. She and Kathleen set about successfully showing dogs all around the Midwest. Eventually, Paul and Shirley retired and moved to Florida.

After Paul Kohler passed away in 1987, Shirley found a second love with Paul Bachman. She and Paul loved to travel and criss-crossed the country in her beloved Taj (the motor home), visiting family, friends, and enjoying the sights.

Shirley cherished being a wife and loved decorating her home and yard. That never changed. She loved her family, friends and all types of animals. She loved Florida and to travel. Sitting still was just not her style.

Shirley lived a full and blessed 94 years.

Shirley is survived by: daughter Kathleen (Doug) Lindsey, stepdaughter Vicki (Allan) Harvey, Stepson Steve (Teresa) Bachman. Granddaughter: Jackie Lindsey and Step Grandchildren: Blair (Andrew) Norton, Ryan (Sara) Bachman, Kari (Paul) Akin, Tannis (Ryan) Smith, and 18 Great-Grandchildren. She is further survived by Sisters: Maria (Ray) Haick, and Connie (Ken) Kurfman. And numerous much loved nieces and nephews.

There will not be any particular memorial service. Family will gather for private moments of remembrance. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate in her memory to either your local Humane Society, or Bluegrass Care Navigators, the Hospice association that helped care for both Shirley and Paul in their final days.
