Shawna Marie Dunn, 44, went to Summerland (passed away) on May 4, 2019. Shawna was a free spirit who studied Wicca. She enjoyed singing, playing music, dancing, reading, playing card games, traveling, floral design, and Shakespeare. Shawna was a marketing coordinator for the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and often reflected on her time there and how much joy it brought to her life. Rita and Shawna started a business together called Half Blind Press, which produced large print calendars for the visually impaired. Shawna was also a vocal advocate for the LGBT community. She majored in English and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree. Shawna rose to the rank of Captain in the Civil Air Patrol and achieved the Amelia Earhart Award. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Those left to cherish Shawna’s memory include her loving wife, Rita Mae Dunn; parents, Victoria and Robert Hurley; sisters, Elizabeth and Rebecca Hurley; brother, Jason Hurley (Izabela); sister-in-law, Denise Villanova (Dwayne); nieces, Autumn and Abigail O’Brien, Stephanie, Savannah, and Sydney Smith, and Morgan and Madalyn Villanova; four-legged familiar, Athena of the Silver Moon; and a host of extended family members and friends.
There will be two Grand Celebrations of Shawna’s life, one in Louisville, KY, and a second in Chicago, IL so that all who love her may have a chance to say their farewells. Days and times to be announced in the coming weeks. Memorial contributions may be addressed with Rita Mae Dunn.
