His death brought an end to his short but fierce battle with ALS. At the time of his death, he resided in Milton, KY, an Ohio River town, where he enjoyed the past seven years of his retirement. Bob was proud to have been raised in Louisville’s south end and was the second of four sons born to the late William G. and Angela M. Bohr.
He was a graduate of DeSales High School and University of Louisville. Most of his accounting career was with Devoe Paint Company, and he had many happy memories of his friends there. Of his post-retirement jobs, The Louisville Zoo was his favorite, where he spent every day first checking on his animal friends, then working in the gift shops and driving the train. Bob also donated his time helping in food programs for children in South Louisville.
An avid Cards fan, Bob was looking forward to the Notre Dame game this season and was trying hard to maintain the strength to attend. Second to U of L was his love of baseball, especially the Houston Astros. Bob was devastated when he could no longer swing a club and missed golfing with his friends. Beer brewing was a hobby that Bob enjoyed for several years, and he loved educating his daughter and granddaughter at local beer festivals.
Bob was a lifelong member of St Thomas More, Catholic Church in Louisville, KY. He will be greatly missed by Linda, his wife of 55 years, his daughter Lara Zuber and her husband Jim; his granddaughter Elena Taurman and her husband Nick; brothers Dick Bohr (Fonda) and Jimmy Bohr. Bob’s brother David preceded him in death. Bob is also survived by several nieces and nephews. His dear loyal friends, who supported him during the past months were a treasured gift. He was under the care of both Pallitus and Hosparus, whose gentle caregivers helped bring him peace.
The Neptune Society will make the arrangements for Bob’s choice of cremation. In September, family and friends will gather to celebrate Bob’s life, and later in the fall, his family will take him DownEast (Maine) which will be his final resting place.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/louisville-cremation for the Bohr family.
