It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karl Heinz Klein on May 19, 2025, surrounded by his family after a courageous prolonged battle with heart disease. Karl was born on May 3, 1948, in Rheinbrohl, Germany, to Peter and Katharina Klein.
He moved to the states in 1964 with his parents and sister settling on California’s Monterey Peninsula. Karl graduated from Monterey High School in 1966, played semi pro soccer, was a proud United States Army Veteran, served with the Marina Department of Public Safety as a Volunteer Fire Captain for 17 years and retired from MRWPCA (Monterey One Water) in 2008 after 28 years of service.
Karl met the love of his life and beloved wife, Patricia Klein. They were married for 54 years and had a wonderful life together. He had a love for spending time with his three grandkids, fishing, playing soccer, kayaking, camping trips, German music, playing the National Anthem for his neighbors each morning at 8am and loved feeding the wild birds. Karl never met a stranger. After his retirement they traveled in an RV for 3 years and settled in Tennessee before recently moving to Jeffersonville, Indiana to be closer to family.
Preceded in joining the Lord: Mother & Father, Katharina and Peter Klein.
Survived by: his wife Patricia Klein; daughters Heidi (Scott) Greenwald, Rachel (Dana) Petrin; grandchildren Makenzi (Damon) Tully, Rylie Greenwald (Julio) and Joshua Petrin (Kierra); sister Monika Finona; brother-in-law Rick (Michelle) Still, and several loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
He will be laid to rest in a National Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
