George was a principled man, instilled with a strong work ethic that was learned early in life. He had grit with determination and provided for his family selflessly. Always generous with his time and knowledge, he was never one to hesitate when help was needed. Behind a jovial smile lay a fierce intelligence; he could build or fix anything he put his mind to. George had a keen sense of humor with an unparalleled wit. Always the avid history buff, he was inspired by the lessons of the past to guide the way he lived his life. George believed in enjoying life’s simple pleasures and was often found under a shaded porch, sitting by a fire, relaxing near the water with a fishing pole, or at the table enjoying a home-cooked meal. He took great joy in time spent forging memories with his family and friends. George was the youngest of 14 children of the late Joseph and Margaret Greenwell.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Greenwell; his brothers, Frank, Tom, Dan, and Freddie; and sisters, Bea and Jane.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Greenwell, and her children, Cassie (Adam) Fortner and Billy Taylor; as well as by his three beloved children, Brad (Aera) Greenwell, Kelly (Brian) Greenwell Isaacs, and Mary Ann (Adam) Hall. He was a proud Pawpaw to Wyatt Greenwell, Avery and Hudson Hall; Gavin, Brody, Layne and Colton Isaacs; and Caly and Charleigh Fortner. He also leaves behind his siblings, Lois, Jim, Mary, Pat, Bill, Laura, and Sarah. George once said, “we only leave behind the memories that we have made with others, and hopefully they are better off for us having been there.”
George’s memorial is open to all who knew and loved him. It will be held Saturday, September 5th, at 1:00 PM at the Isaacs Family Farm, 273 London Lane, Berea, KY 40403.
