

Loran was born in Roseville, California, to Bruce and Barbara Maynard. His formative years were spent with his father in the logging camps of Northern California. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He attained the rank of E-7, Chief Petty Officer. In 1967, Loran served on active duty during the Vietnam War, serving as chief radioman for his squadron in Da Nang, South Vietnam. He was a crew member on the USS Hornet for the splashdown and pickup of the Apollo 11 crew and the subsequent Apollo 12 flight. He served with pride and distinction and was honorably discharged in 1979. Loran loved his Lord, his family, and fishing. He never met a stranger and loved to tell his stories. He was always looking for ways to share the blessings he received.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Maynard. His daughter, Beverly Maynard Mares.
He is survived by his son, Kevin, and wife Patricia. Son, Deland, and wife Jena. Daughter, Anita Spake. Sister Sarita Dieck, brother, Raymond Maynard, and wife Michelle Maynard. Grandchildren Eli Maynard, Matthew Maynard, Cheyenne Wuertz and Riley Maynard. Thirteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Memorial services with held at 2:00 p.m. on January 11 at Second Baptist Church in Malvern, Arkansas. Eli Maynard will preside.
