Susan "Susie" Horner Alexander, 76, of Houston and Galveston, Texas, passed away peacefully on the evening of Sept. 22, 2026. Susie possessed an unmatched spirit and zest for life, radiating joy and warmth to all who knew her.
Susie was born July 6, 1950, in New York to James Kermott and Marie Lou “Sissy” Alexander. At Lamar High School in Houston, where she graduated in 1968, her fun-loving spirit, many talents, and intelligence shone brightly. She was a member of the National Honor Society, the Choralettes vocal ensemble, the Rodeo Club, and the cheerleading squad. She was named a Lamar Beauty, Basketball Queen, and Homecoming Queen, but it was Susie's inner beauty that everyone admired most throughout her life. She was the true Queen of Kindness.
After earning her bachelor's degree in education from the University of Colorado, Susie taught elementary school for a short time before finding her true calling in the title business. She devoted nearly 40 years to the profession, becoming an escrow officer and eventually rising to senior vice president. She was highly respected in the industry for her intelligence and skill, and for the way she made her clients feel. You knew Susie would take care of you, and you could always expect a celebration after closing.
Susie filled her life with the things she loved most: family, friends, travel, gardening, her ever-growing bunny collection, and her beloved doggies. In 1992, she met her life partner, David Tritter, and together they shared more than three decades of adventures. Galveston held a special place in her heart: gatherings at the Galveston Country Club with their wonderful circle of friends, events with her Women's Association of Galveston ladies, sunset cruises with a glass of wine in hand, and lobster and gumbo dinners. She also cherished her annual trips with her sister, Jomie, and other travels with so many dear friends from near and far. And whenever a full moon, or any other beautiful moon, appeared in the sky, Susie's friends could count on hearing about it from her.
She is survived by her partner, David Marshall Tritter; her stepmother, Carolyn Barr Alexander; her brother, James Kermott Alexander Jr.; her sister, Joan "Jomie" Alexander Heftye, and her husband, Wayne Thomas Heftye; and her niece and nephew, Andie Marie and Austin James Alexander.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Galveston Country Club.
