Russell (Rusty) Edwin Yates, 64, of Seabrook, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 5, 1961, in Gary, Indiana, and grew up in the Victoria and Corpus Christi areas of Texas. Rusty also cherished his years in St. Augustine, Florida, where he raised his children, before returning to his Texas roots. On April 14, 2018, he and Donna (Moss) Yates united their families in marriage, creating a beautiful blended home.
Rusty enjoyed a long and successful career as a scheduler and project controls manager, working with several companies including KBR, S&B Engineers and Constructors, and Worley Engineering. His work took him across the United States, where he formed countless friendships and lasting professional relationships with colleagues and that was something he was deeply proud of.
A lover of live music and travel, Rusty was an active member of the Galveston Bay Parrot Head Club. He especially enjoyed hosting house concerts for Trop Rock artists, opening his home to the community friends who shared his passion for music.
Rusty is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his children, Ryan (and his wife Sarah), Eric, and Elizabeth, along with Elizabeth’s sons, Noah Hirshy and Legend Richardson. He is also survived by his mother, Myra, and his loving stepfather, Steve Haffner; his sisters, Rhonda Renee McMath and Rebecca Daley.
And also by his stepchildren and grandchildren.
Dustin Thompson (and his wife Jen) and their children Brandon Doggett, Gabriel Strazasar, Korin Thompson, Garrett Thompson, Savanna Doggett, and Gracelyn Thompson. Tiffany (Thompson) Presswood (and her husband Shane) and their children Taylor and Trentan Presswood.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jackie “Jack” Yates.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at his home, R&D’s Palapa Paradise. 1301 Darden Lane, Seabrook, Texas.
Family and friends will gather to enjoy live music by the pool and share memories in the place Rusty loved most.
