Richard James Weeks, 79, of Alvin, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous nine-month battle with cancer. Born on March 16, 1947, in Port Arthur, Texas, Richard lived a life full of love, laughter, and deep devotion to those around him.
Richard proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life he carried with honor. Beyond his service, he built a successful career as a real estate broker, a profession he was deeply passionate about. Richard was known for his strong work ethic, integrity, and dedication to helping others, continuing to work and serve his clients up until the final weeks of his life—a true reflection of his character and commitment.
He found great joy in his passions—he was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, a dedicated horseman who loved his Paso Fino horses, and a respected member of the horse community. He served as President of the Southwestern Paso Fino Horse Association, where he built lasting friendships and made a meaningful impact. When Richard found something he loved—whether it was cheering on the Cowboys or being deeply involved in the horse community—he gave it his all, investing his time, energy, and heart into everything he did. He was also a true cigar connoisseur, enjoying the simple pleasures in life.
He also had a deep love for cooking, finding joy in preparing meals and sharing them with those he loved. Whether it was trying a new recipe or perfecting a favorite dish, Richard took pride in bringing people together around the table. He was always eager to share his recipes, tips, and meals, creating lasting memories through food, laughter, and time spent with family and friends.
Above all, Richard loved his family. He was known for his quick wit, constant jokes, and optimistic outlook, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. Even in his final days, he continued to bring smiles to those around him, sharing jokes, quoting movies, and reminiscing about a life well lived.
Over the last seven months, Richard lived with his granddaughter, where he was surrounded daily by the love of his family. During this time, he created cherished memories with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attended gatherings with family and friends, and became a beloved “Pawpaw” not only to his own family but to all who knew him.
He is survived by his sister, Vicki Barrilleaux and her husband Rick Barrilleaux; his daughter, Deanna Waggoner and her husband Art Waggoner; his granddaughter, Eliece Waggoner and her husband Tyler Wicker, along with their children Andrew Barnett and Paxton Wicker; his grandson, Trey Waggoner and his wife Devyn Waggoner, and their children Benten and Myles Waggoner; his grandson, Tyler Waggoner and his wife Sarah Waggoner, and their children Everly and Jonah Waggoner. Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sharon Middleton; his parents, Euna and Marvin Charles Weeks; and his sister, Faye Phelps.
Richard will be remembered for the love he gave so freely, the laughter he brought into every room, and the legacy he leaves behind in his family and community.
