Preston Wade Kilpatrick, retired Harris County employee and former Army Veteran, died Thursday, October 6, 2022 in Houston, Texas. He was 78 years old.
Preston was born February 14, 1944 in Houston, Texas. He was graduated from Georgetown High School in Georgetown, Texas in 1962 where he was in the National Honor Society. After high school, Preston attended the University of Houston where he was graduated in 1969 with a BA in Political Science. After graduation, Preston went on to serve in the Army from 1969 to 1971. He served in South Korea and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He married Colenda (Jenny) Merkle on January 10, 1998. The two were destined to be together. The love and happiness they shared was an inspiration to everyone around them. The couple spent the best years of their lives traveling together and shared every bit of their adventures with those close to them.
Preston is survived by his wife, Jenny Kilpatrick, her children, Brian Lujin, Jonny Merkle, and Joshua Merkle, three brothers, Franklin, Bobby and Carl Kilpatrick, sister, Charlotte Anne Guthrie, and a host of nieces and nephews, twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Kilpatrick, mother and father, Myrtle and WB Kilpatrick and sister, Norma Lee Larivee.
Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Jacinto City, 10701 Wiggins, Houston, Texas 77029. Kilpatrick’s family would like to thank the doctors, and each of the around-the-clock nurses, at Memorial Hermann Southeast as well as First Baptist Church of Jacinto City for their prayers.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Jacinto City on December 3, 2022. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. and the service will be at 11:00 A.M. The service will be live streamed on the church’s Facebook page.
