Joseph “Joe” John Dusek, age 73, of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, surrounded by family. Born in Austin, Texas, he was the son of Joseph and Agnes Dusek. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1971, where he met his future wife, Kay Knigge. Joe and Kay were married in 1972 and would later have three children: Dustin, Colin and Darcie. Joe would go on to graduate from the University of Texas Dental Branch at Houston in 1975 and complete his oral surgery training at Louisiana State University in New Orleans in 1978. He then joined Oral Surgery Associates in Webster, Texas, where he enjoyed a successful career until his retirement in 2016. Following his retirement, Joe continued to work as a volunteer for the San Jose Clinic in Houston.
Joe was a family man, Christian, doctor, gardener, automobile and motorcycle enthusiast, philanthropist and traveler, among many other things. He had a strong moral compass and an abundance of love, and that is what we who knew him will miss the most. This love, grounded in faith, family, and friends, helped Joe to make decisions and act in a way that benefited others before himself and strengthened the community around him. In a world that is too callous, too selfish, and too busy, Joe gave his time, talent and treasure to whoever needed it most and shared his humor and joy with loved ones. He is dearly missed and we who knew him hope to honor his life and memory by acting with the same love, compassion, and devotion that he showed to all of us.
Joe is survived by his wife Kay, sister and husband Ann and Richard Belgrado; two sons and their wives Dustin and Ashley Dusek, and Colin and Stephanie Nelson-Dusek; daughter and husband Darcie and Chris Lesinski; and five grandchildren, Lucas and Blake Dusek, Thea and Lizzie Nelson-Dusek, and Lucy Lesinski.
Those wishing to make donations in Joe’s memory are asked to send their donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center or San Jose Clinic.
