
Elaine Mary Rainville Palumbo born Chiguayante Chile, South America, 12/30/1942, deceased May 8th, 2026. 83 years. Preceded in death by father Noel D Rainville, mother Gertrude Marcel Jean Rainville, brother Noel, and sister Jean Rainville Secovich. Survived by her husband Nicholas, daughter Debi (Bill) Schneiderwind, sons Nicholas S Palumbo, James Vincent (Vince) Palumbo, and grandchildren Anton Schneiderwind, Christopher Greenwell and Rachel Black.
Elaine spent her adolescent and early teen years in Chile, where her father was a US diplomat and textile manufacturing consultant to the Chilean government.
Her father returned the family to the US in her late teens. She attended and graduated from Westford Academy in Massachusetts in 1962. She met and married Nick Palumbo. They embarked on a lifetime Army career with military assignments in Germany, California, Panama Canal Zone and Virginia, Pennsylvania, Florida, Texas and Alabama.
Finally settling in the Houston NASA area, Elaine was active in her church group at St. Mary Magdalene church in League city. She also enjoyed her Red Hat women’s group. She was the epitome of the DIY’er around the house and loved spending hours in her garden.
Elaine and her husband traveled extensively in their RoadTrek and a pair of other RVs. The beach was her happy place. Her favorite destinations included beaches in California and Florida. Following her daughter’s move to California, and marriage to Bill, Elaine saw the birth of her grandson Anton. During the next 15 years The Palumbo’s left hot and humid Houston in their RV on the 4th of July and stayed near her daughter’s home in San Diego until Labor Day nearly each year.
Elaine was a barometer of calm, reason, sweetness, and immense patience. She was loved for her balanced consistency and intense and unwavering support of her family.
The last several years were riddled with the throes of Parkinson’s. A host of other medical conditions served to make these late years challenging for Elaine and everyone around her. Her husband Nick and son Nick Jr largely provided the care in their Webster TX home for several years. Eventually the condition necessitated assisted living, rehabilitation, skilled nursing and in the end, hospice care.The family was fortunate to be together in Houston to celebrate her Birthday in late December 2025.
Elaine passed away peacefully after a short stay in hospice care, surrounded by her husband Nick, daughter Debi and sons Nick and Vince. Rest In Peace Elaine.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church, 1612 E Walker St., League City Texas 77573.
