Our father, Charles E. Aulbach II, was welcomed into Heaven on 8 September 2026. He was a devoted husband, loving brother, caring son, proud father, and cherished friend.
He met the love of his life, Carol Aulbach while they were both students at the University of St. Thomas. They graduated and married in 1968. Together, they raised a loving family for fifty-eight years. He is survived by his wife, Carol; his four children, Lauren Salazar (Joseph), Jessica Aulbach Lorti (David), Liessa Speck (Christopher), and Charles E. Aulbach III; and his ten grandchildren, Rowan and Brynn Salazar, Elizabeth and Everett Lorti, Tabytha and Charlotte Donnelly, Alistair and Frances Speck, and Heidi and Elisabeth Aulbach. He is also survived by his sisters, Lauretta Wallace and Nancy M. Aulbach.
After studying at the University of St. Thomas, Charles joined the United States Air Force, beginning a career in which he served his country for more than 30 years. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1990. One of the highlights of his military career was escorting the Thunderbirds throughout South America as a serviceman and translator in 1972.
Charles had many and varied interests: he was a lifelong learner, a technology enthusiast, a gardener, and a creative home chef who enjoyed sharing time, stories, and the Natural History Museum with his children and grandchildren. He earned a PhD in Land Use Planning, Design and Management, writing a dissertation titled 'Detecting, Evaluating and Monitoring Land Use Change on the Southern High Plains of Texas'. He also earned a Master's in Counseling and a Bachelor's in Spanish.
His unwavering commitment to his faith was matched only by his dedication to his family.
Please join us in celebrating his life at his memorial service on Friday, 11 September 2026 at St Helen’s Catholic Church in Pearland, TX. The service will begin with a rosary at 10:30 am, followed immediately by the mass.
