Born in San Antonio, TX, on April 17, 1933, Bob was the son of Marian Ione Lee and Ernest Henry Lee of Baytown, TX, where he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School before attending Lee College. It was there that he earned a track scholarship to Sam Houston State University.
Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a member of the 13th Helicopter Division. His service was distinguished by numerous decorations, and in 1956, his photo appeared in Life magazine, where he was featured as part of the military-assisted recovery efforts following the tragic airline collision over the Grand Canyon.
After returning from Korea, Bob pursued a wide range of careers. He worked as a lifeguard at Howard Hughes' company pool, a helicopter pilot for offshore drilling, an armored truck employee, a Pinkerton investigator, and a sales representative for dental equipment. He also ventured into the fine arts world as a broker and artist's representative, co-owned a fishing charter in Cancun, and was the owner and developer of a residential subdivision on Lake Limestone in Texas.
On March 24, 1962, Bob married Gloria Ann Schamerhorn at First Christian Church in Pasadena, TX. Their 59-year marriage was a testament to Bob’s deep love and devotion to her, and together they built a life full of cherished memories.
Bob’s greatest joys were his family—finding the love of his life, witnessing the birth of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and lifelong entrepreneur. He loved spending time with his family and friends, finding business opportunities, and, above all, making people smile with his world-class joke-telling.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gloria; and his parents, Marian and Ernest Lee.
He is survived by his son, Gregg Lee and wife Tonda; daughter, Kelly Lee; grandchildren, Peyton Lee, Madison Lee, Britney Kuhn and husband Dakota, Nicole Covarrubias; great-grandchildren, Paxton and Macie; and his sister, Sharon Lee Bobbitt.
A visitation will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in the Chapel at Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown, TX, followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown, where Bob was a long-time member and supporter, or the Veterans Administration.
