Born in Staten Island, NY on May 13, 1936, he was the only son of Silvio and Victoria Gonnella and has two sisters, Silvia and Nancy. Gus was in the United States Air Force, serving in the Vietnam War. After 28 years of service, he retired at the highest enlisted rank; Chief Master Sergeant. He then worked for the United States Postal Service for 25 years.
In addition to his loving wife, Gus leaves behind four children, Victoria (David) Cox, Carmela Monahan, Natalina (Glen) Becker, and Stanley (Kristi) Gonnella; eight grandchildren, Taylor (Elliott), Aubrey (Chase), Victoria (Trevor), Nikolas, Brianna, Daniel, Julia, and Thomas; three great grandchildren, Grae, Isla, and Emerlyn; two sisters, Silvia Chiofalo and Nancy Jack (Phil); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Gus was a proud supporter of several local charities to include Disabled Vets of America, Three Square, and Paralyzed Vets of Nevada. His proudest accomplishment was his family, and he enjoyed having weekly Sunday dinners. Gus loved music and dancing, and even had his children convinced that he was one of The Beach Boys. Over the years, many people have come into their home as friends, and left as family.
The funeral arrangements are being held privately with family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.
