George Nicholas Falanga, a man of determination, adventure, and undeniable charisma, passed away on September 13, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 87. Born in Brooklyn, NY on August 22, 1936, George spent his life making an indelible mark on his family, friends, and all those who knew him.
George married Patricia Tortorella in 1962 and established himself as a talented fabric cutter in the garment industry in Manhattan. He then joined the Air National Guard Reserves, where he served as a firefighter. In 1976, George relocated his young family to Rolling Hills Estates, California on the beautiful Palos Verdes Peninsula. As a determined entrepreneur, he established Falanga Cutting Service in Downtown Los Angeles. George skillfully managed the business until his retirement, when he and Pat moved to Nevada to enjoy their retirement years together.
Despite living in the west for decades, George never lost his Brooklyn accent – a testament to his enduring love for New York, Ebbets Field, and "Real bagels - not round bread!” He was always ready to share a story, and his larger-than-life personality made him a striking figure to all who knew him.
George was married to Patricia for 59 years, and together they travelled the world, but their hearts belonged to their roots in Italy. Their love for Italy was so profound they almost moved to Rome, highlighting how important their heritage was to them.
George was a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, who passed away March 30, 2022, and his parents, Angelo Falanga and Giochina Garofalo Falanga, who were born in Naples and Sicily Italy, respectively. George is survived by his daughter Catherine and her husband Erik, son Angelo, and grandson, James.
George was a man of humor and strength, always ready to share a joke. His loss will be profoundly felt by all who knew him. No services are planned, but the family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society and Paws of War in his honor.
