December 12, 1941 - January 15, 2025
An Incredible man left this earth on January 15th after a courageous 5 year battle with heart disease and bladder cancer. Gary was surrounded by his wife of 56 years Sandra, his daughter Becky, and grandson Ryan.
Gary was born on December 12, 1941 in Tajunga California, to his mother Adele and father Gordon. He was a fraternal twin to his sister Sharon, with whom he shared a indescribable bond. He attended Verdugo Hills High School in Tajunga,CA, and the University of Nevada Las Vegas where he was a standout basketball player, and remains one of the Top 100 Basketball players in UNLV history.
Gary worked in the Computer Programming / Financial Services Industry (Stockbroker) in Los Angeles for a few years before moving his family to Las Vegas in 1972 where he began a career in the Casino Gaming Industry. He worked for MGM, Las Vegas Hilton, and Mandalay Bay.
Gary, or "Tapper" as he was frequently called, was Handsome, Charismatic, Witty, and a Mathematical Genius. A true sports enthusiast who loved watching the Anaheim Angels, football, and college basketball, especially his Runnin' Rebels. He loved being a UNLV alumni, and would frequent the basketball practices, games, and lunches. He also loved daily outings with friends at the dog park.
Gary is survived by his wife Sandra Tapper, daughters Tracy Tapper and Becky Tapper, grandson Ryan Tapper (Taylor), and Beagle Jake. His cousins Lance Tapper, Jeff Tapper, nephews Dan Miller (Laura) and Larry Miller (Adriana). He is preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Adele Tapper, and twin sister Sharon Miller.
