Ernie was born on March 13, 1935, to Raymond and Mary Hoffman in Reading, Pennsylvania.
After graduating from Muhlenberg Twp High School in 1954, he went on to serve honorably in the United
States Marine Corps for three years, followed by a short stint at Penn State University.
The military career wasn’t finished, in 1959 he joined the United States Air Force for 20 years. It was there he did a tour of duty in Thailand during the Vietnam War.
Post military service, Ernie found his true love in the Theater Industry, working for and managing theaters in circuits such as Plitt, TM, Cineplex Odeon, Loews, Consolidated, Frank, Century Theatres, and at his final home at Red Hills Cinema in Mesquite.
His career took him to various parts of the country, but he always maintained a love for the West.
During the later part of his life, Ernie served on numerous civic committees in Mesquite and was widely known for his outspoken, kind, and helpful nature.

He is survived by two sisters, Jan VanHoose and Anna May Herbert, (known as Herbie), both of Reading, Pennsylvania, and a long list of friends.
Ernie was passionate about giving and the thing he gave most to, was the Kids for Sports Foundation.
In memory of Ernie, the Kids for Sports Foundation is honoring him by creating a $5,000 annual scholarship. “The Ernie Hoffman Scholarship” (or the Hoffman Scholarship).
