Dan was born on August 26, 1952, at Mitchell Air Force Base in Garden City, NY. A proud patriot and decorated veteran, he served as a Naval Aviator in the United States Marine Corps, where he was selected for the prestigious Marine VIP Squadron at Andrews AFB. During his service, he flew missions supporting the Marine Commandant, U.S. State Department, and Members of Congress—a testament to his discipline, trustworthiness, and skill. After receiving an honorable discharge, Dan continued his aviation legacy in the private sector.
He logged over 20,000 flight hours across a storied career, flying worldwide for Jet Edge, MGM Resorts, JetBlue, US Airways, and People Express Airlines. Dan’s aviation credentials matched his sharp intellect and passion for safety, which were underscored by certifications, including Airline Transport Pilot, Flight Engineer, and Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO). He was a graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a design patent holder, and an Air Force ROTC Scholarship recipient.
Known for his quick wit, disarming humor, and magnetic presence, Dan made hundreds of friends everywhere he went. He was as generous as he was clever, a loyal companion, and a devoted family man. His accepting personality lit up rooms, and he embraced every challenge with integrity and grace.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Janice Wolf, his daughters Christine Yonce and Jennifer Barber, stepson Mark Wilson, his sisters Kathleen Kelly and Margaret Loiacono, and stepfather Richard Schuppert. In addition to his cherished nine adoring grandchildren: Cameron, Jacob, Jordan, Justin, Hailey, Haden, Mark, Abby, and Drew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Edith Omerza, and his brother Kevin Omerza.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dan’s memory to Tunnels to Towers, supporting heroes and their families, just as Dan spent his life doing.
