After college he went to work for the Department of Defense at Ft. Meade, Maryland. While on assignment in Sunnyvale, CA he met his future wife Verna Bradley, and they married one month later. They were residents of Cupertino, CA until their children were out of high school, then moved to the San Diego suburb of Poway, before retiring to Henderson NV, where they have lived for the past 13 years.

Additional hobbies included guitar, piano, computers, and woodworking. He was also a member of a Humanist league and a neighborhood poker club.
