Raymond Vincent Downes

Raymond Vincent Downes, 85 of Summerfield, FL and formerly of Roanoke, VA died peacefully at his home with family by his side on September 25, 2017. He was born in Hoboken, NJ, the son of Vincent and Dorothy Downes, graduated from St Peter’s Prep, Jersey City, NJ and St. Bonaventure, Allegany, NY. Initially believing serving God as a catholic priest was his calling, he entered the monastery. While there, God showed him his true calling, raising a big Irish Catholic family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend and faithful servant. He had a smile that lit up any room and never met a stranger. Ray enjoyed much success for over 30 years in the floor covering industry. He started his second career at the age of 59 becoming a financial advisor. All throughout his life, he enjoyed meeting people and showed genuine compassion to all. He truly led a blest life. Ray will be sadly missed by his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Ann (Petron), daughters Maureen Stump (Jeff), Kathleen Guzi (Tom), Tara MacCall (Doug), Brenda Beard (Charlie); sons Michael (Cathy), Raymond Jr. (Treacy), Matt (Amy), daughter-in-law Judy Downes; step son Philip Petron (Jamie) and step son-in-law Dave Stover and sister Eileen (George), 20 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by first wife, Mary Jo (Kinney), son Brian, step son Edd Petron and step daughter Janice Stover. A mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, October 21 at 10:00AM St. Timothy’s Catholic Church Lady Lake Fl. Internment will be in Roanoke, VA. A special thank you to the Marion County Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Timothy’s Catholic Church or Marion County Hospice.
