Captain Paul Wayne Mosher, 76, of Altoona, Florida slipped the surly bonds of Earth peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025 following an extended battle with Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s Diseases. Born in Houston, Texas to Laurance and Dorothy (Grissom) Mosher, Pasadena, Texas, he was a 1966 graduate of the Pasadena Senior High School and a 1971 graduate of Embry-Riddle University attaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Sciences.
He learned how to fly at age 19, encouraged by older brother and pilot, Tommy, and became a DC-9 Aeromedical Airlift Pilot/Instructor in service to his country, serving a total of eight years in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he was employed at Eastern Air Lines, Midway Airlines, and then finally United Air Lines for 22 years, retiring at age 65. When not flying, he loved playing on the computer, “piddling” around the house and reminiscing about olde times with family and friends over a beer or two! He was just a “darn good guy” who could really tell a joke! He loved to fly, and did it well! He was a member of ALPA(Airline Pilots of America) and the Eastern Air Line’s Silver Falcons.
He met his wife-to-be on a USAF DC-9 Nightingale plane fifty years ago when she was on a temporary duty assignment helping staff med-evac planes as a military flight nurse at Clark Air Base in the Phillipines at the end of the Viet Nam War then hereafter claimed that it was love at first sight! After lots of takeoffs and landings (Fayetteville GA, Verona KY, and Leesburg FL), they settled out in the country retiring in Altoona, Florida. He is survived by his wife Carol (Wargo) Mosher, his sister Sandra (Mosher) Taylor, sister-in-law Bonita (Bonnie) Mosher, and numerous nieces and nephews, whom he all loved! Paul was predeceased by his loving parents Laurance and Dorothy Mosher, brother Laurance C. (Bubba)Mosher Jr., brother Thomas A. (Tommy) Mosher, In-Laws Alex and Frances Wargo, and four devoted dogs-Samantha, Schnitzel, Missy and Maizie, hoping that ALL will greet him when he gets to his final destination.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy can just be doing a kind deed for someone who needs a little help--pay it forward if you like!
