Patricia J. Hoey, age 84, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Cornerstone Hospice. Born on December 12, 1940, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Pat was the daughter of Oscar and Aurore (Madore) Frechette.
After graduating from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1961, Pat proudly served her country as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force. It was there that she met the love of her life, fellow officer Patrick Hoey. They were married on February 29, 1964 — a leap year wedding for a love that endured a lifetime. Following her honorable discharge in 1965, Pat dedicated herself to raising their family and supporting her husband's military career. She managed the many moves that military life required, transforming each new house into a warm and loving home for their growing family.
Over the years, she also worked in a library and managed two retail stores, always bringing care and kindness to those around her. Pat’s deep Catholic faith was a guiding light throughout her life. Wherever the family was stationed, she became a vibrant part of the parish community — serving as a Eucharistic minister, lector, choir member, and catechist.
In 2008, Pat settled in the village of Glenbrook, where she built a new circle of friends and continued to share her joyful spirit. She loved to travel, play cards and board games, and cheer on her beloved Boston Red Sox. Family gatherings were full of laughter, late-night games, and stories — and her home was always open to kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends alike.
Of all her roles, none brought her more joy than being “Memere” to her grandchildren. She was generous with her love, her time, and her talents — a true matriarch who left a legacy of warmth and devotion.
Pat is survived by her children: Patrick (Andrea) Hoey of Urbana, IL; Aline (Bill Kummerow) of Lawrence, KS; and Meaghan (Josh) Shultz of Kansas City, KS; as well as her seven cherished grandchildren: Joshua, Liam, Michael, Grant, Honora, Audrey, and Kathleen Ann. She also leaves behind her brother Gilbert (Joan) Frechette and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Patrick Hoey; her parents; her brother Richard Frechette; and her infant daughter, Mary Ann.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 8:30am on Friday, May 30th, 2025 at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, 1351 Paige Place, Lady Lake, FL 32159 with an inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery in 2026.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patricia’s honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause close to her heart.
