During his 85 years of life he was always there for anyone who needed him. Whether it was delivering communion to people unable to get to church, fixing roofs in Maine for a local non-profit or calling his sons and grandsons with advice. He was a non-stop volunteer in every place he lived. When living on Cape Cod, he helped at the Salvation Army, homeless shelter and was part of the ministry.
Living in Florida he volunteered at a soup kitchen and Our Mother’s Attic resale shop through St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Len lived with a huge heart and kind demeanor and made an impact on everyone he met. Nothing stopped Len from helping others, for instance; one New Year’s Eve he came across a car driving erratically so he flashed his lights and got the driver to pull over. The driver was heavily intoxicated, so Len had his wife, Jean, follow him as he drove the man home. There was a strong possibility Len saved that man's life that night.
While living on the Cape he would help neighbors with anything from changing light bulbs to fixing appliances. When they tried to pay him he would refuse payment saying, “If it was my wife I would want someone to be there for her”. Len and his wife, Jean, decided to have a house in Florida for the winter and a small place in Wells, ME during the Summer.
Their three grandchildren all have very fond memories of spending time with “grampy”, sometimes called “peepaw”. They would go to the beach, Sea Dogs games, down to the dock to catch crabs, or go to the Scoop Deck, a local ice cream shop in Wells. All important memories for them to cherish.
A strong faith helped guide his life from beginning to end. Listening to homilies from his two favorite priests at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church always gave him strength and will continue to guide him and those who loved him.
Len leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Jean M. (Valenti) and two sons. Marc of Nobleboro, ME, his wife Janna (Youngs) and one grandson Dominic; and Matthew of Braintree, MA, his wife Lisa (Kyne) and two grandsons, Jack and Aidan. He is also survived by his sister Joan Pulaski of Concord, MA. He is predeceased by his brother Joseph and sister Anne Richardson. Len also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will all miss him greatly.
Len was in hospice for several days and the staff took great care of him and his family. In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to Cornerstone Hospice.
