John was the second oldest of 16 children and grew up in a house with 3 bedrooms and a kitchen. As the second oldest, he was called upon often to help his mom with cooking, cleaning and any chores necessary to keep the family going while she was having babies. As friends know, John always had many stories to tell from working at age 5 selling strawberries, to making money creatively while pressing clothes on an aircraft carrier in the Navy. As well as being an entrepreneur, he was very charming.
John worked at MetLife. He started as a sales representative and worked his way through the ranks until becoming a Vice President. In this position John developed a nationwide estate planning program and was responsible for opening 15 offices in seven states. John’s passion was dining, and he built relationships with many restaurant owners and servers; always delighting in the reception he received when visiting them. John was a workaholic, but when he retired in 2000, he enjoyed golfing and travelling; beach vacations, cruises, golf vacations, and his favorite, visiting Positano, Italy.
He is preceded in death by his parents William Bentubo and Mary (Ferdinand) Bentubo, and his sisters Janet Bentubo and Linda (Bentubo) Damaral.
He is survived by his wife, Marie J. Mattias, sons John Bentubo, Jr. of Orlando, Florida and Stephen Bentubo of Tampa, FL. Grandchildren Christopher Bentubo, Allison (Bentubo) Migliore and Alex Bentubo. In addition, he leaves four great-grandchildren. John also leaves behind 11 siblings: Ronald Bentubo of Tewskbury, MA, William Bentubo, Kenneth Bentubo of Stoneham, MA, Robert Bentubo of Arlington, MA, David Bentubo of Cambridge, MA, Dianne Dulyacinda of Clinton, MA, Judith Medeiros of Cambridge, MA, Marilyn Miller of Lynn, MA, and Richard Bentubo, Lenny Bentubo and Paul Bentubo of Cambridge, MA.
The family would like to thank Christian Caceres and Malene Fitzpatrick for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
