Chip was born in Atlanta, GA on April 7, 1942 to Emory Sidney Lanier, Jr. and Nell Banister Lanier. He was in the first graduating class of Sandy Springs High School (1960). Like his father, he graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1964 and was a Sigma Nu. He began his career working on the C-5A aircraft for Lockheed (now Lockheed Martin) and retired from Frontline Insurance in 2017.
Living in Florida allowed Chip to pursue his passions: he played golf almost every day since his retirement and loved any activity on the water - scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing and boats of any kind. He traveled especially if it included a boat and the sea air. His last trip was to the Baltic with his fiance, Kay.
Survivors include his son, Joseph Britton Lanier (Alexa) of Ft. Lauderdale, and daughter, Leigh Lanier Jenkins (Kenny) of Miami. Grandchildren Morgan Ann Jenkins and Cole Lanier Jenkins of Miami and Sydney Brooke Lanier of Estero, Florida and Emory Drew Lanier of Ft. Lauderdale will miss their "Grandad." Chip's sister, Dawn Lanier Mullins (Doug), his niece Jennifer Thomas Gordon (John) and nephew Emory
Lanier Thomas (Andrea), all of Atlanta, and his cousins Lanier (LaVoyce) and Edward (Susan) Porter of Orlando also survive him. He will be especially missed by his fiance, Kay Osinski, of The Villages and their dog, Bogey.
Chip would have enjoyed that 70 of his colleagues at Frontline met to celebrate his life on Sept. 19th but charged all the drinks to him. There will be a memorial service at noon on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 17330 South U.S. Highway 441, Summerfield, Florida 34491. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or cancer.org; or the American Lung Association, Donation Processing Center, P.O. Box 7000, Albert Lea, MN 56007-8001 or www.lung.org.
