Donald Edward Long, 85 of Ocala, FL passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Select Specialty Hospital, The Villages, FL. He was born on July 22, 1939 in Cumberland, MD and united in marriage to Helen E. Schoppe in Charleston WV, on December 31, 1984.
Along with is wife, he is survived by daughter, Bettina Meadows (Larry), Franklinville, NC; grandson Anthony Vanoy (Taylor) and great grandson Orson Vanoy, Hickory, NC; sister Alma Redinger of Holly, MI and several nieces and nephews, and friends too many to count.
After his high school graduation in 1957, he proudly served six years in the U.S. Navy.
Don attended Morris Harvey Technical School in Business Administration, K.W. Tunnel Co. in Management Development and WV University. He drove for multiple Teamster transportation companies including Smith Transfer, CF Motor Freight and Carolina Freight. Upon his retirement from Harley Davidson, York, PA, Don's career culminated with the proudly earned 5 Million Safe Driving Miles record.
After retirement he drove a school bus for Miller & Sons for Cumberland Valley School District in Mechanicsburg, PA.
Don never knew a stranger. He loved sharing his real-life adventures with his many friends. Don was a kind and generous man, always helping others throughout his long life.
He was a member of the Harley Davidson Employee Riders Association, York, PA. He enjoyed the group rides to out of state destinations. As part of the Harley Davidson team he with Helen by his side, drove across country representing their products to dealers and buyers. In addition he was honored to share the experience of The Harley Davidson Museum at the HD Dealerships.
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on July 22, 2025 at the Ken Maw UP Church in McKees Rocks, PA. Following the service, he will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA at 1:00 P.M.
