David L. Kail (Dave) passed away in the arms of his beloved wife, Chris at Cornerstone Hospice on October 11, 2023. Dave was born in Mineral Point, WI on November 14, 1939 to Stephen & Maxine Kail. The family moved to Madison in l949. Dave graduated in 1957 from Madison Central High School with a letter in baseball. Following graduation he enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country from 1958 to 1961 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
In 1966 he served as an apprentice painter with Quality Decorators and was the apprentice of the year for 3 consecutive years. In 1979 he started his own very successful business, Kail Decorating.
Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling, camping, golfing and participated in many adult softball & basketball leagues. In 1962 he added the sport of bowling to his activities. He excelled at bowling. He won many individual & team events in Madison & Leesburg, FL. Among his many achievements were numerous 300's games and 800 series his highest being 844. He bowled in 35 ABC National Tournaments. Dave was the youngest inductee in the Madison Bowling Association at the age of 49 in 1989. His bowling achievements continued after his retirement to Leesburg and he was inducted into the Leesburg Hall of Fame in 2006. As a member of the Professional Bowlers Association he bowled in many regional & Senior Tour Events in the US and Australia.
Dave & Chris were married on September 23, 1966. Their love of sports, motorcycling & travel took them across the US and on to Europe, Asia, Australia and cruising the seas. They have been in every state on their motorcycles, yes, even Hawaii where Dave had been stationed while in the Army. When they retired to Leesburg they traveled on their Honda Gold Wing motorcycle pulling their bunkhouse camper trailer to Alaska. We logged 16,000 miles on that trip. Another great adventure for the Kails! We were blessed that in 57 years we had love, adventures and enjoyment along with ups & downs that we shared with each other and many wonderful friends.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, sister Patricia (brother-in-law Leon), brother Robert, nephew Ronnie and other relatives & friends.
Dave is survived by his wife of 57 years and the love of his life Chris. Beloved sons Michael (Sherry), Pat (Gera) and Grandson David (Robyn Konrad), sister-in-law Fayth, sister Maxine (Mike) Brennan and other relatives and dear friends.
A very special thank you to our cross country friends for all the calls & cards that Dave received. Our Florida neighbors & friends have been so very supportive and helpful during Dave's illness. Your visits, calls, meals and love have helped us through such a difficult time that we cannot thank you all enough for everything that you have done and continue to do. We love you all.
