Passed peacefully on January 14, 2019 after battling multiple illnesses for fifteen years. Barbara lived life to the fullest with a loving, caring heart. Always smiling and helping others. Born February 1st, 1943 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with five brothers. In 1983 Barbara married the love of her life, James Weinheimer together for 35yrs. When married they became the Brady Bunch with a blended family of seven children, Carol Ann Wyatt (Chris), Kristine Schultz, James Schultz (Aimee), Jonathan Schultz (Crystal), Jan Connor (Rich), Nancy Wilson (Randy) and John Weinheimer (Cathy). They welcomed fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren into their lives. Barbara was in every sense the matriarch of the family; planning reunions, trips and holidays. She loved her family, traveling, cooking, coloring and golf when she was able with 2 Hole-In-Ones. Every time an illness would be getting the best of her she planned a trip to “look forward”. Coloring was a new hobby that allowed her to make cards that they would deliver to the residents in the nursing facility that did not have family for holidays or birthdays. She knitted Premie Baby Hats. The Villages Charter School Football team will remember her as the “Brownie Lady” that delivered homemade brownies to every home game for the team and the coaches for the past 3 years. Caring for others shaped her career choice in nursing having graduated in from Thomas Edison College in 1980. She taught various forms of nursing as in Emergency Room Crisis Evaluation. Taught LPNS on the certification to dispense medications as a Pharmacology Instructor. Theoretical and clinical instruction for wholistic teaching method for psychiatric nursing. As a Psychiatric Nursing Instructor she provided group and family counseling with crisis intervention enabling the facility to become an associate degreed program. Barbara saw the need to help women displaced thru divorce by writing, negotiating and lobbying for the passage of a Legislative Bill for Displaced Homemakers in 1993. That bill helped to provide career and financial training too many displaced homemakers to help rebuild their lives. Forms of that bill are maintained nation wide even today. She championed women issues with the various hospitals she associated with for health services for women and children in need. Barbara and Jim made The Villages their home in 2000 they belonged to many clubs as The Purdue Club, The German Club and The Second Honeymooners. Barbara was also a charter member of The Retired Nurses Club. Preceded in death by one of her brothers Robert, and her parents Harry and Catherine Buchhofer. Her husband Jim remained at her side throughout every illness and celebration. Please join Jim and our family in a Celebration Service of Barbara’s Life on Tuesday February 5th at 10:30am at the Hope Lutheran Church in the Villages.
