Yolanda Zapata, lovingly known as “Mama Yo,” passed away Saturday, August 05, 2023, at the age of 90. A native of El Salvador, she leaves behind an everlasting legacy across generations, fueled by her unwavering spirit, courageous nature and loving heart. She now joins her late husband Joaquin Alfredo Zapata in the arms of the Lord Jesus.
Yolanda is survived by her six children and in-laws, Sandra and Alpidio, Alfredo and Anna, Tony and Doris, Glendora and James, Frederick and Lorraine, and Nirssa and Yancey; 14 grandchildren and in-laws, Luis and Dana, Nancy and Shane, Jaime and Carina, Anya and Mario, Sandy and Bobby, Alana and Mosha, Elaine, Joshua and Mariani, Jocelyn and Salvador, Jonathan and Paola, Stephanie, Jazmine and Mark, Zavanneh and Kaleb, and beloved companion Kylo; 19 great-grandchildren, Cadel, Keagan, Jaime II, Isabelle, Rebecca, Samantha, Natalia, Noah, Liam, Camryn and Christian, Quinn, Macie, Noah, Julianna, Olivia, Mila, Elena, Luca and Violet.
A devoted mother, caring grandmother, and great-grandmother, Yolanda shared her love for food by cooking, especially her special recipe of Salvadoran pupusas. She was most content when she spent time with family, visited the ocean, dedicated time to sewing projects, listened to her favorite songs, and watched her favorite tv shows. Yolanda's midwife and healing skills brought people from the community to seek her assistance. She assisted her daughter Sandra with several births of her grandchildren. Her contagious laughter and joyous spirit will be remembered in her family's hearts forever.
Yolanda will be greatly missed, and the Zapata family will continue to carry her in our hearts, praying for peace and comfort in her departure to Heaven. In lieu of flowers the family request thoughts and prayers for Mama Yo's family & friends.
“For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
