Gene Allen Andersen of Crossville, Tennessee passed away peacefully at his home on July 4, 2023 at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife Jeanne, sons Alan (Kori), Greg (Sheila), Jeff, daughter Bonnie (Paul Van Camp), seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, brothers Bob (Rhoda) and Don (Linda), and sister Donna Mae Blay. Gene was preceded in death by his parents - Aage and Gladys Andersen, his brother - Arnold, and two of his sisters – Betty Confer and Rose Lewis.
On August 23, 1939, Gene was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Aage and Gladys of Danish descent. He grew up with six beloved siblings, three brothers and three sisters. At the age of seven, his family moved to a farm in Red Oak, lowa where Gene attended a one-room country school through 8th grade. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1957. During college at Ottawa University in Kansas, he courted and married Emma Jeanne Merritt in October 1960. Gene graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics. After his graduation, the couple moved to Denver, Colorado, and Alan, Greg, Bonnie, and Jeff were all on the scene by 1965!
A trusted, dedicated, and respected employee for Asphalt Paving Company in Golden, Colorado for 40 years. Gene served as a CFO/Treasurer/Office Manager. He retired in December of 2004. In addition to his family and friends, his dogs Coco, Dusty, Annie, Bentley, and Annie brought him much joy throughout his life. He was interested in a variety of sports and loved basketball the most. In December 2007, Gene and Jeanne took on a new adventure and moved to Fairfield Glade, a suburb of Crossville, TN where he took great satisfaction in tending the best-looking yard in the neighborhood. Being of Baptist faith, they became members of Central Baptist Church and cultivated many cherished friendships.
Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He had a
quiet nature, always sincere in his advice and guidance, and only spoke positively about others. He enriched the lives of all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 23 at Central Baptist Church (1346 S. Main Street, Crossville). Visitation is at 11:30 and the Service is at 12:30.
