Edward Lumsdaine of Knoxville, TN passed away peacefully on October 18, 2022, having spent his last days surrounded by the things he loved most – family and music. Born in Hong Kong, Edward grew up in Shanghai during the war years with an American father and Chinese mother. He worked his way to the US on a Danish tramp steamer, followed by four years in the US Air Force. He went on to earn his doctorate in mechanical engineering and pursued a career in academia, advancing from professor to Dean of Engineering at several universities. Edward taught and directed research in heat transfer, solar energy, engineering design, and entrepreneurship before retiring to Knoxville, where he enjoyed playing Appalachian music. He authored several books; the latest is Chopsticks and Chocolate, a memoir with his wife Monika of how God worked behind the scenes in his amazing life. He is survived by his wife Monika, his children Andrew, Anne, Alfred, and Arnold, and 14 grandchildren.
