Clarence McGill, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 9th at the age of 87. Born and raised in East Tennessee, Clarence proudly and bravely served 23 years in the US Army. As an Army combat veteran in Vietnam as well as active duty in Korea and Europe.
After retiring from the U.S. Army, Clarence enjoyed being the manager of the NCO Club and McGhee Tyson Armed Forces Club for many years, where he made lasting friendships and continued his service to the military community.
Clarence leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love, and the gift of storytelling. He was a
cherished member of the Knoxville and Maryville communities, known for his kindness and
friendship. Clarence was preceded in death by his father, Huse McGill, his mother, Tishie
Elizabeth; his brothers, Fred, Charles, and George; and his sisters, Margaret Montgomery, Gertie
Price, Nell Haire, and Bertha Chamberlain.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Phyllis McGill; his sons and their wives, Sam
and Juli McGill, Phillip and Pat McGill, and Gary and Pam McGill. He was a proud grandfather
to Micah Wall, Ruslin McGill, Samuel McGill, Jamie Williams, Becky Williams, Justin McGill, and Devin McGill, and a loving great-grandfather.
Clarence was a non-denominational Christian who embraced Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Internment service will be Monday July 1 at 2PM at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery off John Sevier Hwy. The family will have a Family and Friends gathering at Calhouns in Maryville on Sunday, June 30 from 4:30 – 7:30.
