Barbara Jean Boone, age 87, passed away on April 26th, 2026 at home, surrounded by her devoted children and granddaughter, in Johnson City, Tennessee. Her last hours were peaceful, full of joyful storytelling by family members as they shared their most important memories with her.
Barbara was born May 10th 1938, in Erwin, Tennessee, a daughter of Kenneth and Margaret Boone, and sister of Roma Webb and Shirley Chandler.
Barbara was a woman who loved and was loved, who knew how to waltz, an exceptional beauty throughout the entirety of her life. She will be remembered for her wanderlust—splitting her life’s journey between Eastern Tennessee and Orlando, Florida—her tender care of Chase and Chloe—her Maltese companions—and her incredible spirit of survival.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters. In her final week of life, Barbara understood that they were lovingly waiting for her. Barbara is survived by her children: Terry Porter of Johnson City, Tennessee, Bob Bennett of Elizabethton, Tennessee, Julie Hornsby of St. Louis, Missouri, Sandra and Bobby Dees of Erwin, Tennessee; her six grandchildren; many precious great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Family members will gather on May 2nd, 2026 at 1pm for a Celebration of Life, hosted by her loving granddaughter, Sarah, and her husband, Brandon Wilson. She will be laid to eternal rest in Orlando, Florida, where she was a member of First Baptist Church for many years.
We will always remember and miss Barbara’s gentle, lilting laugh.
