Alice Merle Suyama

Alice Merle Suyama, 80, of Richland, Washington, passed away on August 8, 2026, at her home following a long illness. Born February 2, 1946, in Denver, Co., she was the daughter of J. Myron and Anna Harrington.

Alice grew up in Denver and graduated from West Denver High School. On August 28, 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, Bob Suyama. Together, they built a life marked by steadfast love and shared devotion, celebrating just a few days short of 56 years of marriage. They were blessed with two sons, Brian and Mark Suyama, who—along with their families—were her greatest pride and joy. Family remained at the center of Alice’s life, and she cherished her role as a grandmother to seven grandchildren, treasuring each moment spent with them.

Committed to learning and personal growth, Alice attended Central Washington University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business. She dedicated her career to the Richland School District, serving as a lead elementary school secretary. In that role, her calm competence, thoughtful kindness, and steady organization made a lasting difference to colleagues, students, and families alike.

Alice also gave generously of her time to the community. For many years, she volunteered as treasurer for Elijah Family Homes, a nonprofit organization serving the Tri-Cities. Her compassion, willingness to help, and encouraging spirit were felt by many, and her presence brought reassurance and warmth to those around her.

Alice was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Harrington. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bob; her sons, Brian (Suzanne) and Mark (Amy); and her seven grandchildren: Alexa (Bradley Anderson), Anna, Molly, Mia, Brandon, Olivia, and Aiden.

Alice will be deeply missed, and her legacy of kindness, strength, and generosity will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
